Ubuntu – I am because of you
Boyd Varty, TED Women 2013 – December 2013
Inspirational and almost unbelievable stories from a South African who’s lived most of his life in the midst of nature. He’s also a man who knew Nelson Mandela personally. His personal horrific story in the middle of the talk is amazing, and the story about the disabled elephant called “Elvis” is enchanting.
I love the definition of the word Ubuntu;
Ubuntu – I am because of you – People are not people without other people
Which reminds me of Thich Nhat Hanh’s concept of interconnectedness in The Miracle of Mindfulness. The same thing we learnt from considering The Table and the Universe.
A thoroughly enjoyable and uplifting talk.
