Today we have a second article from Cassie Steele (she wrote one on this site back in July 2018). Cassie is a freelance writer and editor who has suffered with depression and felt that her life had no direction. However this was the beginning of her journey towards self-discovery and spiritual awakening. Here she writes about the influence spirituality can have on our wellbeing. I hope you enjoy her article. All the best, Peter.
The Influence of Spirituality on Our Overall Wellbeing
by Cassie Steele
Author and life coach Jana Kingsford once said: “Balance is not something you find, it’s something you create.” On any given day, the average adult will be tasked with juggling a demanding job, challenging family obligations, and maintaining an active social life while also trying to stay happy and healthy. Amid our crazy-busy lives, we often neglect one of the most important parts of our existence – ourselves. Engaging in spiritual practices such as meditation, mindfulness, and yoga can benefit your wellness in a number of ways, such as finding your purpose, boosting your immune system, and fighting off anxiety and depression.
Giving your life purpose
When you feel that your life has a purpose, you are likely to not only be happier but take better care of yourself as well. One very effective way to give purpose to your life is to develop your talents to their full potential. Although it is possible to discover your talents and capitalize on them yourself, enlisting the help of a psychic reader can also prove to be very useful. A reputable psychic can help you to not only uncover your hidden talents but also steer you onto a path of success which will add significant value to your life. When we start to live with purpose our whole mindset changes, leaving us feeling more positive, less stressed, and increasingly eager to live each day to its fullest.
Boosting your immune system
Although the human body is generally very good at healing itself, a boost to the immune system is always welcome. Despite there being many pills and potions on the market that promote a healthy immune system, many spiritual practices have the ability to trigger the body’s healing capabilities as well. When you meditate, your fight or flight response becomes one of rest and repair which is conducive to intensive healing. According to Dr. Kelly Turner, a NYC-based cancer researcher, frequent meditation and mindfulness can boost the immune system significantly. Further studies also found that mindfulness meditation produces noticeable effects on both the brain and immune system which can lead to reduced illness and improved overall wellbeing.
Decreasing depression
While stress may be a very natural part of our everyday lives, it can be of great detriment to our wellbeing if we allow it to take control of our health and emotions. Reaching for the nearest anti-depressant may seem like a viable solution, but spiritual practices such as yoga and meditation may prove to be a lot more beneficial. Even individuals who are new to meditation can experience a great reduction in stress and depression (which can last up to 10 months) according to studies conducted at the Chopra Center. Apart from being highly effective, spirituality practices are also becoming increasingly popular as they are among the most cost-effect and accessible depression-fighters known to man.
Spirituality can have a great impact on our overall physical and mental well-being. When combined with good nutrition and regular exercise it can, in fact, form the basis of a very happy and healthy life.
